Kindness #4

For my fourth act of kindness, I played volleyball with a guy who wasn’t getting any people to play. When I was in Mexico, there was a volleyball game at the hotel but the guy running had no one to play with so I went and played with him. After a while we got enough people that we could play an actual game with two teams. I think that it made him feel happy because people wanted to come and play with him and he would not be lonely anymore. It made me feel good because I brighten someones day who was feeling a bit lonely and I got to have fun too! That is my fourth act of kindness review.

Kindness #3

For my third act of kindness I helped my dad shovel snow because he had a sore arm. My dad is sick and has a sore shoulder so I decided to help him shovel snow. I shoved the pathway and put salt down while my dad was in bed. I think it made him feel better because then he knew he could rest and get better rather than going out in the cold and getting worst. It made me feel good because I helped someone who is sick and couldn’t do it themselves and I made it safer for other people too. That was my review for my third act of kindness.

Kindness #2

For my second act of kindness, I made my dog a special toy because we are not going to see her for 9 days. Izzy (my dog) loves toys that smell like my family so I made her one and wrapped it in one of my old socks so it would smell like me. I think it made Izzy feel happy because she will have something to play with and since it smells like me, it will be like I am there. It made me feel really happy because I love dogs and when they are happy they are so cute to watch. I also feel happy because I got to see how a gift can make someone really happy. That was my second act of kindness review.

Kindness #1

For my first act of kindness, I helped my sister with her chores because she is very busy. In the morning my sister is always rushing around to get ready for school and today is was also her birthday. She is very stressed because she had a lot of things that are happening right now and I thought it would be nice to help her out. My dad asked her to empty the dishwasher and she said that she had things to do and is in a rush so I said that I will do it for her. Doing this made me feel good because I got to help out my sister when I know she does not have time to do things like that. I think that it made her feel relived because it’s just one less thing that she has to worry about and can have more time to do the more important things in her life. That is my first act of kindness review and I can’t wait to do more.

Two

The book Two was written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi and is for kids aged 3-5. Two is best friends with one and would always play together. But then three came and three wanted to play with one, two felt left out. Zero came to comfort two but then she asked three if she could play too. Three said no because two had played a lot with one and three wanted a turn. This started a big fight between the even and odd numbers. The evens wanted to be even with the odds but the odds don’t see a problem not being even. Two had enough of the fighting and told everyone that they don’t have to fight and we can all play and sing together. After that, all the numbers danced and singed together and two went to go see one. They started to dance but then two got dizzy and knocked one but two caught him. One asked to if he can count on two and two said yes and that they would always be friends. One thing I like about the story is that she uses numbers instead of humans because if you want to say something about a number, they usually rhyme. I also like the illustrations because they are simple and colourful. Overall, I really like the book Two and author did a great job on creating a great picture book.

One

The book One was written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi and is a book meant for kids aged 5-7. Blue was a quiet colour who wished he could be sunny like Yellow but overall he liked being Blue except when he was with Red. Red would make fun of Blue but all the other colours made Blue feel better. Every time Red said something mean and no one spoke up, Red got bigger and bigger and bigger. Red now picked on all the colours and made everyone feel bad, but then One came. One was nice and funny but Red didn’t like him. Red rolled up to one and said stop laughing but One said no and then Red rolled away embarrassed. One said that is anyone picks on me, I stand up and say no and then all the other colours agreed. Red felt left out and went over to Blue and was mean but then Blue became six and said that Blue can be super cool. Red tried to roll over Blue but everyone said no and when this happened, Red rolled away but then Blue said that they can both be cool. Red turned around and became seven and Blue said that everyone counts. This book made connections to me with little kids on the playground because sometimes they can exclude other people but then they become friends again. I like how the moral is to stand up for yourself even if other people won’t because if you don’t, then the person will keep being mean until you say no. Overall, I think that the book One is great and would recommend it to anyone under the age of 10 because of the great the moral.

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla

The book Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla is written by Katherine Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian Karas and I think this book is for kids aged 4-7 because it doesn’t have many words. Ivan was just a little gorilla when he was captured by poachers and taken to Tacoma with another monkey. They were put in a mall and dressed in human clothes, giving human food, and earned the names Ivan and Burma. But on day, Burma died and Ivan was all alone. Ivan lived in the mall for three years and did lots of fun things but he did need to learn things that other gorilla didn’t. Ivan was about 13 when his coat started to shin, he had turned into a silverback gorilla. After 27 years, Ivan was transferred to a better home that was more gentle and like a jungle with trees, grass, and other gorillas. I really like the illustrations in this book because they are sort of half realistic and half cute. I also like how they told a true life story about a sad event so that people can learn and not make the same mistakes. Overall, I think that the book Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla is great and that the creators did a good job on making an amazing picture book.

Nerdy Birdy Tweets

The picture book Nerdy Birdy Tweets is written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Matt Davis and is a fiction book ment for kids aged 6-9. Nerdy Birdy Tweet is about a bird who got an app called tweetster and gets lots of friends but he doesn’t pay much attention to his real life friend Vulture who gets mad and flys away. The next day, Vulture comes back and decides to join tweetster so she can talk to Nerdy Birdy. One day at lunch, Nerdy Birdy posted an embarrassing photo but Vulture eating lunch and then Vulture got upset so she flew away. She didn’t come back for a few days so Nerdy Birdy went to go see her and said he was sorry and then they became friends again. I really liked the moral of the story because it shows that people can get so attracted to their phones and forget about the real world. I also really liked the illustrations because they were funny and cute. Overall, I think that the book Nerdy Birdy Tweets is a really good book and the author and illustrated did a great job on creating a awesome picture book.

What Do You Do With An Idea?

Image

Today we read a picture book called What Do You Do With An Idea and it was written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mae Besom and I think this is a book for kids aged 4-7. This book is about a little boy who had an idea but he didn’t know what to do with it so he left it alone but it followed him. He was nervous what people would think about his idea so he acted like he never had an idea but he felt happier when it was around. The idea wanted food, wanted to play, it wanted a lot of attention and they became friends. The boy showed it to other people but he was afraid that they would laugh and they did, they said it was a waste of time and it would never become anything. The boy thought about it and almost gave up on his idea, he almost listened to them. But then he thought that it was his idea even if it was crazy so he worked with it, played with it, and most of all gave it his attention and his idea grew and grew and his love did too. The idea built an house, one that looks up at the stars where it could dream in peace. One day something amazing happened, the idea burst wings and took flight into the sky and it was apart of everything. I really loved this book because of what the moral is, the moral is to never give up on your dreams even if people don’t think it’s possible. I also really like the illustration of the egg with the crown because it resembles growth in an idea like an egg grows bigger. Overall, I liked the book What Do You Do With An Idea and think that the author and illustrated did a great job on creating a awesome picture.

Chopsticks

The Chopsticks

The picture book Chopsticks is a fiction picture book meant for kids aged 4-6 and is written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magon. Chopsticks is about a pair of chopsticks who do everything together and no one can remember ever seeing them apart. They mastered the basic chopstick moves and now they are learning coronary moves but then they snapped in half! The doctor told chopstick that he just has to stay off his foot and his brother never left his side. Chopstick was getting better and trying was walking again on his foot which changed everything. As the pair was apart, they realized how many great new things they could share together. I really liked this book because of the cute illustrations and the moral which is that no matter if someone you love is far away, your bond will be forever. Overall, I really enjoyed the book Chopsticks and I think that the author and illustrator did a great job on creating a fabulous picture book.
